About
Dr. Carvil Richards currently pastors a two-church district in Saskatchewan, Canada. Prior to this, he served in Nova Scotia, in a three-church district. Serving in a church district means you will not be preaching in the same church every week. As such, you need another preacher or lay leader to help feed the sheep through preaching the Word.
About Me
It was in Nova Scotia that Dr. Richards did a series of intensive preaching labs (one or two days) with lay leaders on sermon writing, sermon structuring and preaching, so churches that are often led by lay leaders would still be blessed by the preaching even when it’s not done by the pastor. In his ministry context in Saskatchewan, Canada, he has been offering coaching and mentoring to young adults and other lay preachers in his congregations.
Dr. Richards has been journeying with both lay and experienced preachers for over 10 years by helping them to become more effective at the art and science of preaching.
Dr. Richard’s academic journey began at Northern Caribbean University with a BA in Theology, then at Andrews University in Michigan with a Master of Divinity (MDiv). At Tyndale University, in May 2023, he graduated as valedictorian with a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Preaching and Communication.
About BEFORE THE PULPIT
BEFORE THE PULPIT ministry was birthed while Dr. Richards was at Andrews University. Together with his wife Alexandra and a few other seminarians, he created a space for new preachers to grow in confidence for preaching. His DMin research topic was “A Collaborative Model to Increase Confidence for Preaching in Young Adults at Rosthern Seventh-day Adventist Church, Saskatchewan.”
For more than 11 years, Dr. Carvil Richards has poured into beginner and advanced preachers by helping them to grow in their sermon writing and preaching skills with excellence. He has the natural gift of identifying gifts in preachers and journeying with them to reach their optimal God-given potential. As a coach, he helps equip clients with resources to reach their goals as he meets them where they are and takes them where God would have them to go.
